Strategies to Support Dental Prostheses

Maintaining healthy soft tissue, gingiva, and bone structure following the implementation of a fixed or removable prosthesis is paramount to the therapy’s long-term success. Toward this goal, clinicians can help patients maintain their dental prostheses by educating them about the many factors affecting oral health and appliance longevity. In providing such information, oral health professionals must consider each patient’s oral health, general health, and comorbidities. Fungal infections, for example, are not uncommon in denture wearers.
