The Hallmarks of Alzheimer Disease

Dental professionals routinely provide care for individuals with dementia. Characterized by abnormal brain changes severe enough to interfere with daily life, dementia often causes memory loss, inability to use language, and challenges with problem-solving.¹ Alzheimer disease (AD) is the most common type of dementia, accounting for 60% to 80% of all types.¹ In 2019, dementia affected 9.8% of Americans ages 70 and older.² In 2022, approximately 6.5 million Americans ages 65 and older live with AD.³
