Create a Culture of Safety

Safety culture refers to the manner in which safety is managed in the workplace and often reflects “the attitude, beliefs, perceptions, values, and behaviors that employees share in relation to safety.”1 The term safety culture is relatively new to dentistry, although it has been widely used in medicine—particularly hospital settings—since the 2000 publication of the Institute of Medicine study, To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System.2
