Screening for Oral Cancer

Unfortunately, the prevalence of oral and oropharyngeal cancers is rising. These cancers exert significant negative effects on health and quality of life. Survival rates and treatment success are thought to be improved when oral and oropharyngeal cancers are caught early. Dental professionals are charged with conducting oral cancer screenings on every patient to facilitate early detection of these diseases. Early detection can curtail the comorbidities of oral cancer and its treatment, including loss of function, potential disfigurement, depression, and poor quality of life.1
