Supporting Oral Health in Patients with Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women.1 Most women diagnosed with breast cancer can expect an excellent outcome, with a 5-year survival rate higher than 80%.1 Because cancer treatments can affect the oral tissues, dental care is an important component of breast cancer care and follow-up. This review will cover how dental hygienists can play a vital role in helping patients with breast cancer maintain their oral health, as well as prevent oral complications related to breast cancer therapies.
