The prevalence of periodontitis and gingivitis is exceedingly high both nationally and around the globe.^1,2 According to data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, nearly half (47%) of American adults have some form of periodontal disease, while 30% have moderate periodontitis, and 8.5% have severe periodontitis.²
