Managing Medical Emergencies

Medical emergencies may occur during the provision of routine dental procedures. They tend to vary in their cause and nature of occurrence, which demands that all dental personnel be prepared. Emergencies may arise due to local anesthesia injections, adverse drug interactions, and dental anxiety, as well as other possibilities. In addition, patients with preexisting medical conditions may be prone to acute exacerbations of these conditions, which could result in life-threatening medical emergencies. Patients with underlying medical conditions, such as angina pectoris, hypertension, bronchospastic disease, seizure disorders, and glycemic issues, should be closely watched.
