Alternative Mandibular Block Techniques

Successful Halsted inferior alveolar nerve blocks (HIANBs) require aligning relevant and sometimes difficult-to-visualize penetration sites and needle pathways with key technique aspects. Even when optimal sites are located, profound anesthesia may not result.1
Many clinicians have perfected their HIANB technique, however, the risk of failure remains.2 When using common techniques, confirmed by contact with the medial ramus near the mandibular foramen, profound anesthesia is not assured.
