Caring for Patients With Down Syndrome

Down syndrome (DS), or trisomy 21, is a condition in which a person has a full or partial extra copy of chromosome 21. It is considered the most common chromosomal disorder.1,2 The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that nearly one in 700 babies in the US is born with DS.1–3
