In 2018 the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) and the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) published a new classification system for periodontal health and disease, changing the way oral health professionals consider clinical parameters.^1,2 For a complete description of the new criteria, Caton et al^1,2 published their comprehensive findings in both the Journal of Periodontology and the Journal of Clinical Periodontology. A thorough summary also appears in the September 2018 issue of Dimensions of Dental Hygiene.³
