In 2018 the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) and the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) published a new classification system for periodontal health and disease, changing the way oral health professionals consider clinical parameters.1,2 For a complete description of the new criteria, Caton et al1,2 published their comprehensive findings in both the Journal of Periodontology and the Journal of Clinical Periodontology.
