While oral health professionals acquire baseline knowledge and meet clinical competencies related to infection control and prevention during their formal education, continuing education in this area is critical to providing safe dental care to patients. Safe dental visits encompass new COVID-19 protocols, as well as existing infection prevention measures, including verification of sterile instruments. The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) require verification of dental instrument sterility.
