Landing the perfect job directly after graduation is the dream of many dental hygiene students, but what if you face difficulty in finding a job? Here are some ways to find your next job.
1. LINKEDIN
Take your LinkedIn profile up a notch by keeping your resume, qualifications, and “about me” section up to date. Switch on the “open to job opportunities” option so recruiters and connections know you are ready for a new position. You can also search for new connections on the platform; this will allow you to build a relationship with someone who may be able to introduce you to his or her manager.
2. MARKET YOURSELF
Develop a resume, business cards (or a postcard), and a website to share with dental offices and recruiters. Have these assets at the ready so you have something to hand over to new connections. You can even leave your cards in dental offices that you would like to work in. You never know when a job opportunity may present itself, so always be prepared.
3. FACEBOOK GROUPS
There are several job search engines that dental hygienists should check daily for new job openings, including LinkedIn and Indeed.com. But Facebook groups, such as Dimensions of Dental Hygiene’s closed discussion group, are also becoming places to find jobs and make new connections with fellow dental hygienists.
4. REACH OUT
You already know several dental hygienists in the field, all you have to do is reach out to them. Call, email, or message your friends and acquaintances to let them know you are actively searching for a new position. Remember that relationships are important so before asking for a favor, take the time to ask about the other person and catch up before diving into the reason you contacted him or her.
