Dentistry has a long history of surgical intervention in the treatment of dental caries. Initial principles focused on proper resistance and retention form. The development of resin composite, along with advanced bonding methods, ushered in more conservative techniques for tooth preparation. This allowed for vast improvements in esthetics and conservation of tooth structure that translates into healthier periodontia and pulpal tissues.
