Treacher Collins syndrome is a genetic disorder affecting the development of the craniofacial complex; it arises between the fifth week and eighth week of embryonic development. The disorder is caused by a failure of the neural crest cells—which are integral to the typical evolution of the tissues of the face, neck, and oral cavity—to develop and function properly.
