Hypertension is a common health condition in the United States and a risk factor for heart disease and stroke.1 The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 2016 statistics indicate that hypertension affects nearly one-third of US adults—approximately 75 million people.2 One out of every three adults has high blood pressure and only about half of individuals with hypertension have their condition under control.3,4 In 2014, high blood pressure was a primary or contributing cause of death for more than 410,000 Americans, or more than 1,100 deaths each day.1,5
