Dental caries, although entirely preventable, remains a common oral disease. Tooth decay is the most chronic health problem among children age 6 to 19, but adults are also affected, with 90% of individuals older than 20 experiencing some form of caries.1,2 The management of oral health can become more difficult with age due to the increased prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, depression, and other health problems, as well as decreased manual dexterity.
